How to apply to the Claude for Startups program

Who can apply to Claude for Startups, what approved founders get, and how to submit in the Claude Console. Includes the $1,000 API credit, the free Claude Team year, and what the credits cannot be spent on.

Short answer

Startups founded in the last 5 years, or funded in the last 2. You need a Claude Console account, a company email that matches your website domain, and a short description of what you are building. Venture funding is not required.

What is the Claude for Startups program?

Claude for Startups is Anthropic's program for founders building on Claude. Approved companies get a free year of Claude Team, Claude API credits, partner offers, office hours with Anthropic's Applied AI team, and access to founder events. Benefits are subject to the Startup Program Terms, including the Additional Benefits Addendum, on that page.

This post summarizes the public program page as of 8 October 2026 so a founder can see if it fits, then apply in the right place. If the page and this article ever disagree, the program page wins.

Who can apply?

Anthropic says you can apply if all of these are true:

  • The startup was founded in the last 5 years, or funded in the last 2.
  • You have a Claude Console account.
  • You apply with a company email that matches your website's domain.
  • You can describe, briefly, what you are building.
  • You comply with Anthropic's supportability policies.

You do not need venture funding. The program is open to bootstrapped, pre-seed and venture-backed startups. If a VC in Anthropic's partner network backs you, that firm can also unlock up to $100,000 in additional API credits, claimed through the VC rather than through the standard application.

What do approved founders get?

The program page lists these benefits for approved companies:

  • One year of Claude Team, free, for up to five Premium seats. This is only for organizations that are new to Claude Team. If you already have a Teams plan, that free year does not apply.
  • $1,000 in Claude API credits.
  • Up to $45,000 in offers from participating partners, across tools for building, design, analysis and growth. Those offers come from the partner companies, not from Anthropic, and members redeem them in the Claude Console.
  • Office hours with Anthropic's Applied AI team. The page describes these as 45 minute live sessions, held every other week, with a registration link sent after you are accepted.
  • Claude Startup events, including Founder House, hackathons and meetups.
  • Higher API rate limits, automatically, for members who receive credits through the program.

How do you apply?

  1. Open the Claude for Startups page and choose Apply now.
  2. Sign in to the Claude Console. Create an account first if you do not have one.
  3. Use an email on your company domain, the same domain as your website. A personal Gmail address will not match the requirement.
  4. Write a short description of what you are building. Specific is better than broad: who it is for, what it does, and that you intend to build on Claude.
  5. Submit the application from the Console.

Have the company domain, the Console login and a one paragraph description ready before you start. Those are the three things the form asks you to already have.

How long does review take?

Anthropic reviews every application. Most are decided within minutes. The rest go to a manual review, which usually takes 2 to 3 business days. You get an email when there is a decision.

How do you claim the credits and the Team plan?

Acceptance is not the same as the credit landing in the account. After you are accepted, Anthropic emails a link to the Claude Startups page in the Claude Console. Sign in there to claim the Team offer and the API credits.

The $1,000 in API credits expire six months after they are granted. Claim them when you are ready to spend them on a real build, not months before anyone will use the API.

Can the credits be used on Bedrock or Vertex?

No. Anthropic says Claude for Startups credits apply to the first-party Claude API through Claude Console. They cannot be used on AWS Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or other third-party platforms.

Do you need to reapply if you are already a member?

No. Anthropic says existing members of the Claude for Startups program do not reapply. You redeem the current offers in the Console.

What should you do with the credits?

A credit balance does not connect Claude to the CRM, the inbox, or the spreadsheet the company actually runs on. The useful spend is a workflow: one painful process, a baseline, and a person who owns the result when the agent is wrong.

That is the work OPC Journey does for customers. One forward deployed engineer maps the data and the process, ships the first automation, trains the staff, and stays accountable. If you are applying so the company can build on Claude, book a fit call and we will tell you whether Ignition is the right first two weeks.
